Una wants children to enjoy the love of writing. Write an original story and stand a chance to win up to $100!
About the Competition
Aims

To enable young writers to see the beauty and wonders of writing

To promote fun and creativity in young writers during the process of writing

To encourage young writers to write more and appreciate the challenges of story creation

Categories and Word Count

Category 1: For participants aged 7 to 9 (100 - 150 words)

Category 2: For participants aged 10 to 12 (200 - 250 words)
Grading Rubric
Entries will be graded against a scoring rubric with a maximum of 15 marks. The age of the contestant will be taken into consideration when assessing the quality of writing.
Some points to consider before you start writing

Brainstorm elements you would like to include in your story

Write an outline of the rough storyline

Decide the perspective to use: first, second, or third person?

Do you want to include dialogue?
-
Will you be including other characters?
-
Decide the number of words to dedicate to each section of your story
-
How should the story end? Will there be a satisfying resolution or will it be a cliff-hanger?

You may submit one entry, handwritten or typewritten on an A4 sheet. Do make sure that your handwriting is legible before submission!

The contest is held from 18th July 2020 to 18th August 2020, 6:00 pm.

This is an English writing contest, entries in other languages will not be accepted. Category 1 is for children 7 to 9 years old and Category 2 is for children 10 to 12 years old.

You may submit your entry handwritten or typewritten on an A4 sheet. Do make sure that your handwriting is legible before submission!

Please state your child’s name and age to ensure he/she meets the entry requirement of the either category.

To enter this competition, certain information such as the name and age of the participant, an e-mail address and a phone number will be required to administer the competition and to contact the winners.

Each child can submit only ONE entry. Winning entries are judged according to relevance to theme(s), originality and creativity.

The judges’ decisions are final. We will write to the winners to inform them to claim their prizes.

All participants must seek the consent of their parents or guardians before submissions.

Upon submission, any copyright of the short stories shall belong to Mdm Theo Learning Space. Participants will not receive any remuneration, reward or benefits, other than the prizes, should their story be used for publicity and other commercial purposes.

Winning entries and creative ideas from participants will be posted on Una’s Facebook and Instagram for sharing with other children. They will carry the name and age of the child as per submission, to give credit to their stories.
